Eating Disorder Awareness Week: Talking Saves Lives February 1 - 7, 2015
As this calendar year comes to end, NEDIC is looking forward to celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015. Thirty years of raising awareness and educating Canadians about eating disorders… and we couldn’t do it without your support!
Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) will be fast approaching on February 1st through the 7th. We will continue to promote the message “Talking Saves Lives”, because we know that through open, supportive dialogue, we can help break the shame, stigma and silence that affect nearly 1 million Canadians that are living with a diagnosed eating disorder and the millions of others who are struggling with unhealthy food and weight preoccupation.
Since our toll-free helpline became available to Canadians from coast to coast in 2013, we have spoken with thousands of individuals, parents, friends, and teachers who are seeking help and information. It is through our outreach and education efforts, that we are able to support these individuals in their struggle to find hope and healing.
In support of EDAW 2015, NEDIC has a new poster that is available for FREE (excluding shipping and handling). We encourage you to order now because quantities are limited! We will also continue to do our part by reaching out to media and encouraging them to consider covering EDAW and doing a story that helps demystify this often misunderstood mental illness. We’re excited to be hosting our first ever Twitter Chat on Monday, February 2nd – stay tuned for details in the coming months. We will also be hosting our 2nd annual Spoken Word Event in Toronto on February 5th – where amateur and professional spoken word artists will creatively express their thoughts and sentiments around beauty ideals, body image and weight preoccupation through poetry, song and rap.
This EDAW we ask you to join in the conversation: Help us to raise awareness and understanding of eating disorders.
Please help to make a positive difference in your community by hosting an event, hanging the poster, sharing information and reaching out to your local media.
If you are planning an event, please list your information on our website by clicking here. Alternatively, email us the details at firstname.lastname@example.org by January 10, 2015. We can also promote your event on social media, so please connect with us on Facebook and Twitter.
Every effort, however small, makes a difference. If you can’t commit to anything else this year, then please consider a donation to NEDIC. Your donation will support our toll-free helpline, educational outreach and public awareness campaigns. Tax receipts are provided for donations of $20+.
Talking saves lives… so please help keep the conversation going.
