What is #showusyourpurple?

#showusyourpurple is a collaborative, low-barrier national social media campaign to raise awareness about eating disorders that started in 2019 with leadership from Body Brave. Help us draw attention to EDAW by wearing something purple, sharing it, and nominating others to share it on social media. Everyone can join in, whether they have lived experience or not. The more people that participate, the better?

Why participate?

It's an easy way to raise awareness and help break down stigma. Just by sharing a photo on social media in support of EDAW, you can help to change things for the better. Over one million people living in Canada are experiencing this - we can't afford to wait!

Why purple?

Purple is the colour of passion, inspiration, and calmness. It speaks to both the urgency of our mission and the thoughtful, rational approach that is driving our strategic vision forward.

How YOU can get involved!

  1. Take a picture of yourself wearing something purple. This could be clothing, accessories, something in your environment - be creative!
  2. Caption the photo with a message about why you are participating in the campaign. Check out this year's social media messaging for inspiration. Don't forget to use the hashtags #showusyourpurple and #EDAW2020.
  3. Between February 1st and 7th, share the picture on your social media channels and nominate friends to join. Whether it's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, or another platform - share this where you're active!
  4. Most importantly, have fun! Any way you choose to participate will help to make positive changes.

Don't want to post a picture of yourself? There are other ways to can participate:

  • Engage with posts made by others (e.g., retweet, share, like, repost, comment)
  • Challenge or nominate your favourite influencers and celebrities to participate
  • Take and share pictures of purple objects, decorations, or other items around you
  • Decorate your room, workspace, vehicle, plant, or pet with purple in support of the campaign
