NEDIC helpline workers receive extensive training. On the helpline, they provide information, resources, referrals, and support to individuals located in Canada.
There is a lot of information about eating disorders online, and it can be hard to sift through it all. NEDIC is a trustworthy source of information about eating disorders and related concerns. If it feels too overwhelming to search online, connect with the helpline -- a NEDIC support worker will help you talk through your concerns, answer questions, and share resources. We want to make it easy for you to find the information you need.
NEDIC has an extensive resource library. Some are developed by NEDIC, while others have been evaluated by our Resource Development Coordinator.
We have resources about different eating disorder diagnoses, like avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder and binge eating disorder. We also have resources about different kinds of treatment, like the Maudsley family-based therapy approach or dialectical behavioural therapy. We can also help you find tips for choosing professional help or resources you can share with your family doctor if you would like their support in accessing care.

Have you heard of NEDIC's service provider directory? It lists hundreds of providers across Canada who provide treatment for eating disorders. Providers in the directory have been interviewed to ensure that their views align with NEDIC's non-dieting, weight inclusive philosophy.
You can look through the directory on your own, or we can help you look through it on a chat or a call to the helpline. We can't recommend one provider over another, but we can help you understand what type of care might be most useful for you and help you find something that meets your unique needs depending on your age, location, and whether you are looking for publicly-funded care, free support groups, or a provider who may be covered by your insurance.
Providers listed in the directory include dietitians, psychotherapists, inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, social workers, and many others.
Living with an eating disorder isn't easy. Neither is supporting a loved one who has an eating disorder. If you're having a tough time, connect with a NEDIC helpline worker for in-the-moment support. We can talk through what's on your mind, go through some coping skills, connect you to supports for the longer term, and offer a place to feel heard and understood.
NEDIC is not a crisis line. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please connect with 988 or your local emergency services.
If you connect with the NEDIC helpline via phone, we may see your telephone number on call display. If you leave us a voicemail, we can return your call. You can share your name if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you connect with the NEDIC helpline via live chat, we ask that you provide us a name for the conversation. This can be a nickname or a pseudonym if you do not want to use your real name. We will also ask for your age, gender, and location. This helps us provide the most appropriate resources and referrals, but you can opt not to share. Your IP address is shared with us through our live chat provider. You can learn more about NEDIC's privacy policy here.
