Improving Eating Disorder Care for Young Adults and Their Caregivers

Are you a young adult (18-29 years) with an eating disorder or the parent of a young adult with an eating disorder?

Researchers from the University of Calgary, McMaster University, and Mental Health Research Canada, with the support from the National Initiative for Eating Disorders (NIED), invite you to participate in a panel of young adults or parents/caregivers affected by eating disorders to generate recommendations for future eating disorder research and care delivery!

The goal of this study is to identify the most important research priorities and recommendations for eating disorder service provision from the perspectives of young adults with lived experience and their parents/caregivers. The recommendations generated from this study will allow researchers, community partners, and government representatives to identify key areas for research and funding that are most relevant to those affected by eating disorders.
You are eligible to participate in this study if:

  • you are a young adult aged 18-29 who self-identifies with having an eating disorder and are anywhere along your recovery journey, OR
  • you are a caregiver (i.e., parent, legal guardian, extended family member) who supports or has supported a young adult with an eating disorder, AND
  • you have access to a computer or mobile device with teleconferencing capabilities, AND
  • you are fluent in English.

What Does This Study Involve?

If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will be asked to:

  • complete a consent form and a brief demographic questionnaire using an online survey tool, AND
  • participate in a 4-hour virtual discussion with a panel of young adults OR parents/caregivers, where you will be asked to identify your key research priorities and recommendations for eating disorder service delivery and provision. This panel will take place on a video conferencing platform called Zoom.

The dates on which the young adult and parent/caregiver panels will be hosted are: February 25 and 26, and March 5 from 10am-1pm MST (12-3pm EST)

In appreciation for your time and participation, you will be provided with an e-gift card.
