Substance Use for Weight Control Among Canadian Adolescents and Young Adults: Prevalence and Patterns of Engagement

Researchers in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto are seeking participants for a research study to understand why and how young people use substances to control their weight.

This research will explore the relationship between substance use, eating disorders, body image, and self-esteem, and document the lived experiences of individuals who use substances to control their weight. 

Are you eligible? 

The research team is looking to recruit adolescents and young adults who are: 

  • 16 to 30 years of age
  • Currently live in Canada
  • Have used substances to lose weight or prevent weight gain within the past year
  • Able to speak English

What’s involved? 

  • Share your experiences in an approximately 1 hour long online interview 

What are the benefits of participating? 

  • The information gathered will be used to improve policies and practices to support the health and well-being of Canadian adolescents and young adults

What will you be compensated with for participating?
